Introduction
File-Xray is a classical file hexadecimal viewer/editor.
It offers classical navigation functions to display the real contents of data sectors.
It also offers analytical displays for some data structures it knows about (MacBinary, Binhex files, etc.).

User Interface
The user interface is the same as classical hexadecimal editors:

Analytical Display
File-XRay recognizes following data structures, and displays them accordingly:

  • ISO Volume Descriptor
  • Joliet Volume Descriptor
  • ISO Path Table
  • Joliet Path Table
  • ISO Directory
  • Joliet Directory
  • Macintosh Volume Descriptor
  • Macintosh Partition Table
  • Macintosh Master Directory Block
  • Macintosh B Tree Header
  • Macintosh B Tree Nodes
  • MacBinary Files
  • BinHex Files
  • Apple Single Files
  • Apple Double Files

File Editing
File-XRay features an Edition mode, where you can write into the file, sector by sector. Needless to say that this feature can be very dangerous, but also very powerful.

See also:

  • CD-XRay, low-level CD-ROM and DVD-ROM explorer.
  • Disk-XRay, low-level disk explorer.

Download
A demo/trial version, whose validity is limited to 30 days, can be downloaded from this Web site. After this trial period, the programs refuse to run and you are invited to buy a full license.
