Why an entomological inventory of Montmartre Cemetery?
Even
intra-muros stricto sensu (that is, without the
Bois de Vincennes and
the
Bois de Boulogne), Paris shows an animal life that you could not guess from
the first look.
Because of personal circumstances (I live on the other side of the Boulevard de Clichy),
I used to frequent the cemetery daily, first with my children, who got their afternoon
bottle over there, then for more egoist purposes, since I chose to make the cemetery my
own macrophotographic workspace.
Montmartre
Cemetery has a long history, with more than 10 km
2
but can be considered as un unexpected natural life space, without too much human
interventions.
Well, since I was stung by the photographic bee a long time ago, I chose to
obey this old/new passion just on the other side of the street.
Therefore, when the weather is fair, I take my backpack photo gear over there
for one hour or sometimes a little more.
The identification work was done with care, using the photos
and the shooting conditions (habitus, season and environment), but without capture,
thereby limiting the potential scientific accuracy.
Most of the identifications were elaborated or confirmed on the great English-speaking
forum
diptera.info or on the excellent French forum
Monde des Insectes.
